29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(5)(i): Non-self-supporting ladders were not used at an angle such than the horizontal distance from the top support to the foot of the ladder way approximately one-quarter of the working length of the ladder (the distance along the ladder between the foot and the top support). Exterior of building adjacent to Public Alley 419: An employee was using a 24 foot extension ladder that had a working length of approximately 19 feet 6 inches, was not at an angle such that the horizontal distance from the top support to the foot of the ladder was approximately one-quarter the working length, or approximately 4 feet 10 inches. The horizontal distance was approximately 2 feet 9 inches exposing the employee to a fatal injury resulting from falling off the ladder.
