29 CFR 1910.138(a): Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. a) Oven cleaning area by loading dock, The employer provided nitrile gloves instead of neoprene gloves to employees who are exposed to chemical burns when using Oven Brite Cleaner and which according to the material safety data sheet causes skin burns and requires the usage of neoprene gloves. An employee sustained chemical burns on 04/18/12. Condition was noted on or about 07/23/13. NOTE: THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR THIS ITEM, FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1,000 AS PER CFR 1903.13.
