29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation was not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652(c). Coast Guard Housing Area, Lifesaver Drive; on or about 24 June 2013 and times prior thereto; the employer did not provide adequate protective system to prevent cave-ins during an excavation of a sewer line. Excavation was not sloped. Lab results classified soil as Type C. This condition exposed employees to cave-ins and caught-under hazards.
