29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(4): Ladders were used for purposes other than the purposes for which they were designed: a- 680 Route 35 South/Main Avenue, Bayhead NJ: Employees were using a closed A-framed ladder, resting against a pitched roof, to access another level of the struture's roof. This ladder in question is designed to be used in the fully open position with the legs locked open. As such, the employees were exposed to fall hazard in excess of 22 feet 5 inches to the ground surface below. Condition observed on or about 06/05/13. NOTE: IN ADDITION TO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION, THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION FOR THIS ITEM, FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN AN ADsDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1000.00 IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.
