Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.178(a)(4): Modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe operation of powered industrial truck were performed by the employer without the manufacturer's prior written approval: (a) Employees drove Caterpillar and Toyota powered industrial trucks with unrated and unapproved attachments for lifting 2,000 lb. bags of silicon carbide material. The employer did not obtain written approval from the vehicle manufacturers prior to allowing employees to operate the vehicles with attachments. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
