Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazard of crushing and lacerating injuries resulting from the utilization of a 5/16" hoist wire rope on a 5-ton pendant controlled, monorail hoist to lift and transfer loads which exceeded the breaking strength of the wire rope on the west side of the cold end main line. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to decrease the weight of the jumbo packs being lifted by the 5/16" hoist wire rope.
