Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. Employees were exposed crushing/struck-by hazards associated with the use of automotive lifts: a) Lift operators were not trained on the hazards associated with lifts, how to safely operate the lifts, and the method for safely securing vehicles on lifts. b) Makeshift wooden blocks placed on support pads were used instead of accessories approved by the manufacturer. c) The employer did not develop a periodic inspection procedure in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, with documentation of each periodic inspection. d) The employer did not develop a periodic planned maintenance procedure in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, with a record of each planned maintenance procedure performed. e) The employer allowed employees and bystanders not involved in lift operations in the lift area.
