Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: The employer does not ensure crane is adequately installed to support intended loads in accordance with the manufacturer's erection instructions. This violation most recently occurred on or before 02/17/2012, at a workplace located at 898 Leary Road, Leary, Texas; in the torch room, where a 1/2 ton Handling Systems International, Inc. column-mounted cantilever style jib crane was installed on a support column not capable of supporting the load imposed on the column by the crane. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to ensure the column, footing, and methods of installation are designed by a professional engineer qualified in structural design. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the date of this citation, the employer must submit documentation describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that the jib crane is mounted on a column capable of supporting the load imposed by the crane on the column.
