Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to explosion, inhalation and fire hazards from heating a 180 degree Celsius battery: Located in the Tech Room, employees were exposed to explosion hazards while engaged in the heating process of the 180 degree Celsius batteries for measurement while drilling operations. Among feasible methods to correct the identified hazard, one method would be not to heat the battery per International Electrochemical Commission (IEC) 60086-4, Primary Batteries- Part 4: Safety of Lithium Batteries, Section 7.2, Subparagraph (g).
