Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 015B Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: (a) Location - Plant: On or about 4/6/11, the employer failed to conduct frequent inspections of under hung cranes, including but not limited to: 10 ton Shaw under hung bridge crane, a 5 ton Shepard Niles under hung bridge crane and a 12 ton Shaw under hung bridge crane. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to establish and implement a program of frequent inspections in accordance with the requirements of the most applicable version of ASME B30.11, American Society of Mechanical Engineers Safety Standard, Monorails and Underhung Cranes.
