Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: a)In the old dry kiln building: On October 28, 2010 and at times prior to; an employee was exposed to a fall hazard of up to 10 feet to the floor below while working in a three sided wire basket that was placed on the forks of a forklift. The employee was not provided fall protection in that the three sided basket did not provide guardrails on the side facing away from the forklift and the employee was not wearing a fall harness with a lanyard attached to a secure anchor point. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to: Purchase and utilize a fall harness and lanyard as a method of providing fall protection for employees working from a platform elevated by the forks of a forklift.
