Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: a)In the old dry kiln building: On October 28, 2010 and at times prior to; an employee was exposed to a fall hazard of up to 10 feet to the floor below while working in a three sided wire basket that was placed on the forks of a forklift. The basket was not secured to the forks of the forklift and the basket and the employee fell 10 feet to the floor below. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to: Provide and utilize a chain or other device to securely attach the platform to the elevated forks of the forklift.
