Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to falling loads from the below the hook lifing devices. a) On or about June 8, 2010, the employer did not ensure that the under the hook lifting device, friction-type pressure-gripping lifter, used on the line three under hung ARO hoist (Model 7756E, Serial # C9215994) was marked with a load capacity exposing employees to struck- by/crushing hazards while hoisting small engines and frames for riding lawn mowers. Among other methods, a feasible abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with the requirements of ASME B30.20-2006 "Below the hook lifting devices", Sections 20-1.2: Marking, Construction and Installation and 20-1.3: Inspection, Testing and Maintenance. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation ( using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence, or written records.
