Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about September 23, 2009, and prior thereto, at the worksite located at 951 Fox Chase Drive, Greers Ferry, AR, for the benefit of employees working under loads supported by Norco brand 12-ton bottle jacks, the employer failed to ensure that the blocking used was of sufficient strength to support the weight of the mobile home in case of jack failure as required by ASME B30.1-2009, Section 1-2.9.5.4(e). Employees were exposed to crushed-by and struck-by hazards. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is use blocking that has been rated and/or tested to withstand the weight of the load in case of hydraulic jack failure.
