Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls, struck-by, and crushing injuries from unexpected movement of the delivery truck: (a)Warehouse; on or about April 11, 2010 and at times prior thereto, local delivery trucks were not maintained in a safe and operable condition. Employees were operating and parking the Compton #71, 24 foot, International box van that had a non-functioning parking brake. Note 1: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that all delivery vehicles receive detailed annual safety inspections by a qualified mechanic. In addition, drivers should perform regular inspections to ensure critical operating and safety equipment is functioning properly. Note 2: Abatement certification and documentation IS required for this item.
