Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a lightning: On or about 06/08/09, a worker engaged in the task of trimming the lawn at a residential home was exposed to bolts of lightning from an incoming storm in the immediately vicinity. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to develop an emergency action plan that removes employees from the danger area when lightnings/thunderstorms are approaching the work area. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
