Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LOCKOUT
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to caught in between and struck-by hazards: a)melt shop, columns(s) of the VAI Fuchs Electric Arc Furnace, the method used was insufficient to lockout gravity on column(s) A, B, and C, which weighed 12 tons each. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to effectively lockout/block the column(s).
