Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards, while working in storage areas, where racks were not anchored to the floor and damaged components not repaired: On or about 02/24/09 at Augusta, GA: Employees were exposed to struck by hazards, while performing work in the following locations: a. Egg Carton Warehouse: Rack columns were not secured to the floor. b. Crane Shed: Rack columns were not secured to the floor. c. Construction Warehouse: Rack columns were not secured to the floor. d. Store Room (Next to Machine Shop): A rack support column located at Row #39 was damaged and in need of repair. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THESE HAZARDS IS: 1. Reference MH16.1:2008, Section 1.4: The bottom of all rack columns shall be furnished with column base plates and shall be anchored to the floor with anchor bolts capable of resisting the forces caused by horizontal and vertical loads on the rack. Inspections shall maintain the structural integrity of the installed rack system. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
