Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards during the operation of mini skid steer loaders. On or about September 27, 2008: a) Worksite - The employer did not implement and enforce a preventive program of frequent inspections of the mini skid steer loaders to ensure that the machines were in safe, controllable operating condition. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the recommendations of the Vermeer Manufacturing Company as specified in the Operator's Manual for the S600TX Compact Skid Steer Loader, Section 60 (Maintenance), and Section 21 (Controls). In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
