Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed the potential hazard of thermal and/or chemical burns from the uncontrolled discharge of volatile gasses and/or liquids. For the employees working near the service rig on or about August 27th, 2008. A feasible and recognized way to prevent this hazard is to ensure volatile gasses and/or liquids in the well are displaced with an inert material before performing work on the well. Employees were exposed to gas and liquid escaping from the well causing thermal burns. Reference: Oklahoma Corporation Commission Regulation; OAC 165:10-11-6(e)
