Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CUTS
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a drowning hazard: On or about 09/11/08, an employee was exposed to the hazard of drowning, in that the employer allowed an employee to enter the intracoastal waterway to retrieve a saw used to cut the concrete pilings. Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be for the employer to implement procedures that would prohibit employees from entering bodies of water to retrieve tools. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
