Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard: FALLING
Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:04/21/08 Location:South Water Station Condition:Employee operated a Caterpillar 988F wheel loader to move hot slag through and around areas containing standing water, exposing the employee to an explosion hazard resulting from the hot slag falling into the standing water. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to establish and maintain an effective program for managing water accumulation due to rain and/or the water applied to the cooling piles through actions such as regulating the water spray and regularly grading and filling in the area, and ensure that all employees working in these areas are properly trained and aware of the explosive potential created by hot slag falling into water. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
