Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer does not furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees are exposed to the hazards of being struck-by flying objects: a) Two wire ropes securing a heat exchanger to the G.E. speed increasing gear box are not installed correctly. The wire rope clips are attached to a plastic coated wire rope and two of these are installed with the saddle on the dead end of the wire rope. This violation was most recently observed on or about 07/16/07. One method among others to abate this hazard is to remove the plastic coating and install the wire rope clips with the saddle on the live end of the wire rope as per Crosby recommendations. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, within 10 calendar days, the employer must submit an abatement plan describing the actions it is taking to ensure that clips are installed properly and meet manufacturer's requirements.
