Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer does not furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees are exposed to working around hot equipment surfaces: On or about September 25, 2007, and at times prior thereto, the employer does not provide guarding against hot surfaces on process equipment. This violation was most recently observed in the FCC Unit complex, along the north side decks of the regenerator column, where employees were exposed to skin burns from hot external surfaces that were not insulated or otherwise guarded. One feasible means of abatement for this hazard, among others, would be to extend the external insulation in line with ASTM guidance similar to where already installed along the other deck walkways or apply staggered stretch metal guards.
