Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fall from heights: A) Site - Northeast corner of building - Truck: On 11/04/08, an employee was exposed to the hazard of falling approximately 34 feet to the ground below because the company was using outrigger pads underneath their bucket truck outriggers that did not increase the load bearing area to prevent the truck from sinking into the soft ground and destabilizing the vehicle. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct the hazard is to provide and use larger outrigger pads to increase the weight bearing area of the outriggers on soft ground.
