Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crush & struck by hazards: a) Mittal Steel Mill, MultiServ Scrapyard Operations, Coatesville, PA - Employees (Brakemen) were exposed to death and serious injury when they required, allowed or able to ride the Bucket Cars which were not provided with a safe place to stand. On or about 12/27/06. Abatement Note: One feasible and useful means of abatement, among other methods, would be for the company to install and maintain useable grab irons and stirrups on the sides of the cars at each end as specified in CFR Title 49, Volume 4, Chapter II, Part 231.
