Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Wooster Iron and Metal Company worksite, Wooster, Ohio: During work activities at the shredder unit, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by materials that fall off of conveyors including, but not limited to the stacker conveyor. One feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to follow the precepts of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B20.1-1996 edition, Section 5.9.2(d), which requires spill guards, pan guards or equivalent protection be provided if material may fall off of the conveyor and endanger personnel.
