Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about January 19, 2007, and at times prior and after thereto, maintenance technicians were exposed to the hazards of being struck by tools/molds and strongbacks stored in the maintenance area, which measured approximately 90-3/4" tall by 90-1/2" wide, and 16" depth with strongback, creating an unsafe work practice and unstable storage of the tools/molds. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to increase the base dimension or add extensions to the tools/molds to make them stable.
