Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by and/or crushed by hazards: On or about April 18, 2006, at the workplace located at 6601 South Zero Street, Fort Smith, AR, during disassembly of a Caterpillar model D353 diesel engine, S/N 046B07004, in the engine tear-down bay, the employer by not securing and supporting the engine to prevent it from tipping, slipping and falling, exposed employees to the hazards of struck-by and/or crushed by the diesel engine. Among other methods, at least one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard includes: Utilize stands in accordance with the manufacturer's operating instructions. **Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19(d), the employer must provide documentation that this violation has been abated within 10 calendar days after the abatement date.**nt
