Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards of being crushed and/or caught-by the skid steer loader or its parts while in operation: (a) For the employees working around skid steer loaders during site preparation and concrete work, 204 North Highway 81, Arlington, South Dakota. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct the hazard would be to comply with the Bobcat 873 Skid Steer Loader operator's manual, that includes the following: 1. Never go under or reach under lift arms or lift cylinder without an approved lift arm stop. 2. Train skid steer operators to visually check the area for bystanders and other employees before operating machinery. 3. Only operate the skid steer while seated in the cab.
