Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: LIFTING
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees in that employees were exposed to struck by falling load hazards: a)jobsite, on 01/10/06, the 40 ft. by 16 ft. rebar mat was not adequately rigged and secured to prevent excessive bending and collapse during lifting and placement, exposing employees to struck by falling load hazards. Abatement note: among other methods, one feasible method to reduce this hazard would be to follow the recommendations of the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute in its publication, Placing Reinforcing Bars, 8th ed. (2005), requiring the use of a spreader bar when hoisting reinforcing steel bars 30 feet or longer to prevent excessive bending.
