Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards: a)Hydro area, employees were exposed to struck- by hazards while operating a jib crane which contained a 5-ton underhung Yale electric hoist; the employer did not conduct frequent and periodic inspections. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard includes the following: 1-Comply with the ANSI/ASME B30.16-2003 An American National Standard Overhead Hoists (Underhung). 2-Comply with the ANSI/ASME B30.11-1998 An American National Standard Monorails And Underhung Cranes. 3-Comply with the manufacturer's recommendations to develop an inspection and maintenance program of the crane and hoist.
