Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 - The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards created by the improper installation of natural gas-fired equipment: a.) DeLullo Trucking Corp. Garage Ceiling - the Re-Verber-Ray overhead infrared natural gas-fired tube heater was not supplied fresh air from outside the building. The hazard could potentially result in fires and/or the accumulation of harmful levels of Carbon Monoxide. b.) DeLullo Trucking Corp. Garage, northeast corner - the Hydrotek US HN Series Natural Gas Powered Pressure Washer was equipped with a manual damper. The hazard could potentially result in fires and/or the accumulation of harmful levels of Carbon Monoxide. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to correct the condition include complying with the applicable requirements of the National Fuel Gas Code which states: NFGC 54/10.8.5 states "All air to the non-recirculating direct gas-fired industrial heater shall be ducted directly from outdoors." NFGC 54/10.18.2 states "Listed heaters shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions." NFGC 54/12.14 states "A manually operated damper shall not be installed in any appliance vent connector." Page 6 of the manufacturer's (Boyd Lofgren & Co. Re-Verber-Ray, Detroit Radiant Products Company) Installation Guide clearly shows the need for outside air to be supplied to the appliance.on
