Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a)On or about 9/12/05, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling trusses and/or falling from the truss web, while installing metal plate connected roof trusses during construction of an indoor horse riding arena; trusses were not properly rigged during hoisting and adequately braced to prevent a collapse. AMONG OTHERS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT FOR THIS HAZARD IS: 1.Develop and utilize a truss installation and bracing procedure which meets or exceeds the specifications of the Wood Truss Council of America and Truss Plate Institute publication BCSI 1-03, "Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses"; section BCSI-B10 "Post Frame Truss Installation and Bracing."
