Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling from ladders: (a) Fisher Heights Giant Eagle, 1300 Country Club Road, Monongahela, PA 15063: On or about April 18, 2006, employees were not trained in the proper use, safety instructions, warning labels, inspection, set-up, climbing, and care and storage of ladders. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard is to ensure that employees are trained in the American National Standards Institute, ANSI A14.5-2000, Ladders-Portable Reinforced Plastic-Safety Requirements, Sections 9.1; 9.1.5; Table 27; and Section 9.3.2. In addition, employees shall be familiar with all manufacturer's safety instructions, such as those listed on the sides of the ladders.
