Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the employee had his arm amputated and other serious head injuries when he was pulled into the wood chipper while feeding brush and tree limbs into it. a. Location - Durant Avenue, Maynard, MA: On or about 04/04/2005, the employee had his arm amputated and received serious head injuries when he was pulled into the wood chipper while feeding brush and tree limbs into it. Among other methods, two feasible means of abatement would be to: 1) Follow the manufacturer's instructions, which state that when the chipper is hitched to a vehicle, never attempt to feed material until the vehicle has come to a complete stop, the parking brake is applied and the driver has exited the vehicle. 2) Follow NIOSH instructions, which state that at least two workers should be in close contact with each other when operating the wood chipper.g
