Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a roll over/struck-by hazard: On or about May 22, 2006, and times prior thereto, the employees were exposed to being struck by the equipment because they had not been trained on how to operate the equipment safely. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods, among others, to correct this hazard is to develop a training program in accordance with the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) and American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) ANSI/ASSE Z490.1 2001, Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health, and Environmental Training. The following items should be addressed: 1. Operating techniques 2. Control familiarization 3. Safe use of the vehicle and equipment 4. Specific training on the vehicles and equipment that is used by the employees
