Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
21 VSA Title 2,Chapter 3, Sub-chapter 5, section 223(a) - The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or significant physical harm to his employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards while on a working surface 11 feet above the lower level without a means of fall protection. Location: Dining Hall, Keewaydin Camp for Boys, Route 53, Lake Dunmore, Salisbury, Vermont. Violation: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or significant physical harm to employees in that employees were attempting to close the clerestory windows while working from the interior support rafters, 11 feet above the lower level floor, without a means of fall protection which exposed them to a fall hazard. Possible feasible and acceptable methods of abatement are to modify the clerestory windows so that they can be closed while standing on the floor or use a temporary scaffold catch platform, or a fall arrest system as a fall means of fall protection in order to eliminate the fall hazard.
