Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard: (a) At 308 11th Street West where employees were operating the Jones & Lamson TNC 312A universal lathe and exposed to injury from the moving turret while reaching into the lathe. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1. Ensure employees do not open the lathe door until the lathe has completed all operations. 2. Provide employee training as specified in ANSI B11.6-1984 American National Standards for Machine Tools-Lathes-Safety Requirements for Construction, Care, and Use Section 7; Part 7.1.1.1 Mandatory Safety Instruction. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement Certification Letter").tion
