Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: Prior to and including December 28, 2004, the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were not protected from the hazard of explosion resulting from contamination of the material that was charged into the aluminum smelting furnace. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to implement a comprehensive scrap inspection and rejection program. Such a program could follow the Guidelines for Aluminum Scrap Receiving and Inspection Based on Safety and Health Considerations, Second Edition, published by The Aluminum Association.ns,
