Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of bridge collapse when inspection by a competent person were not being done on a bridge demolition site. a) Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that during bridge demolition that inspection by a competent person are made as the work progresses to detect hazards resulting from weakened or deteriorated floors, walls or loosened material in accordance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A10.6-1990, Construction and Demolition Operations-Safety requirements for Demolition Operations.
