Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a)On or about 8/21/2004, employees exposed to a fall hazard during horizontal and vertical travel on a job-made platform suspended on the forks of a forklift. Feasible means of abatement are: 1.Only use a platform that is secured to the forks according to ASME B56.1-2000, paragraph 4.17.2. 2.Use only a platform whose design is in accordance with the requirements of ASME B56.1-2000 par 7.36 which requires elevating platforms have a slip resistant floor surface, and have a restraining system such as a guardrail or the use of a lanyard. 3.Inspect all platforms before use to ensure there are no defects. 4.Instruct employees in the proper use of elevated platforms and their potential risks and hazards.
