Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the conditions listed below: Construction Site: On or about 10/05/2006, at 502 N. Austin in Marfa, TX; employees were exposed to the hazard of having a concrete block wall fall on them while trying to correct it from leaning off of center. The concrete block wall was being jacked upright when a support element allowed mechanical advantage to be lost and the jack slipped alowing the wall to fall on employees. Among other methods, this hazard can be corrected through the development of procedures such as a lift and or repair plan that would address hazards and allow for practices limiting employee exposure to the wall during the process. Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item.
