Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to fall hazards while climbing amusement rides for erection or dismantling: (a)On or about August 1, 2005, Reed Exposition Midways located at State Fair Park, West Allis, Wisconsin, employees were required to climb the structures of the rides such as the Super Loop and Ferris Wheel during the erection and dismantling of the rides without fall protection. Employees accessing or working on rides were exposed to falls at heights up to 60 feet above the ground level. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to utilize an articulating boom lift to safely access heights. Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
