Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a falling hazard while working on a 2 foot aluminum ladder which rated weight capacity was not sufficient. a. Location: Maintenance department; On or about Jan. 26, 2006 an employee was exposed to the hazard of falling while working on an aluminum step ladder. Abatement Note: One feasible method of abatement, among others, would be to implement a program and training on selection and use of ladders. While developing a program, assistance can be found in ANSI Standard A14.2.1956 American Standard for Ladders. Selection shall be, as a minimum, a Type 1A industrial, extra heavy duty ladder with a working load of 300 lbs.
