Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: ***Certification AND Documentation of Abatement Required*** The danger of a load falling or tipping over and crushing an employee as the result of lifting a load that is not secure or not properly balanced while using an overhead underhung crane. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazards is to comply with the requirements specify by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standard(s): B30.11 Monorail Systems and Underhung Cranes. Section 11-3.2.3: The appointed person directing the lift shall see that the load is well secured and properly balanced in the sling or lifting device before it is lifted more than a few inches.
