Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: ***Certification AND Documentation of Abatement Required*** Employees being crushed by an overhead load, or crane collapse, from the crane being overloaded beyond its capacity. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazards is to comply with the requirements specify by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standard(s): ANSI B30.11 for Monorail Systems and Underlying Cranes. (a) Section 11-1.1.1:The rated load of the crane shall be plainly marked on each side of the crane bridge. (b) Section 11-1.1.1:If the crane has more than one hoisting unit, each hoist shall be plainly marked with its rated load. These markings shall be clearly legible from the loading position.
