Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: the hazard of receiving thermal burns and/or depleted oxygen during a fire/explosion on an offshore oil rig while working from the fingerboard/monkeyboard of the derrick mast on Rig#62, located in Galveston Bay,1/2 mile west of April Fools' Point,Texas City, Texas Among other methods,one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide an emergency escape means (such as a "Geronimo line") for any employee working from the fingerboard/monkeyboard, as specified by Section 6.10.1 of the American Petroleum Institute (API) Standard RP 54-1999, "Recommended Practices for Occupation Safety and Health for Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing Operations."
