Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees servicing a tires were exposed to struck-by hazards: On or about 05/19/03, at the west side of building 9, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by rubber fragments while inflating the tires of construction vehicles without controlling the air pressure being added to such tires. Among other methods of abatement, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are: (a) to follow the equipment manufacturer's procedures to inflate tires as outlined in the grader's operation & maintenance manual; and (b) to use tire inflation devices equipped with the mechanisms to control the air pressure going into the tire. PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
