Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a. On or about November 11, 2003 - at the above addressed jobsite, employees erecting sixty seven (67) foot five (5) inch span, wood, Pitched Trusses were exposed to the hazards of falls and/or being struck by falling trusses or other materials due to shifting and collapse of the trusses as a result of inadequate bracing and overloading. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard would be to follow temporary bracing recommendations outlined in the Truss Plate Institute (TPI) HIB-91 Summary Sheet Commentary and Recommendations for Handling, Installing & Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses. The TPI requires a professional engineer be used for trusses over sixty (60) feet in span.
